Diva, 2020

Land intervention in reinforced concrete, resin, and pigment
33 x 16 x 6 m

Dug directly into one of the highest hills at Usina de Arte, Diva takes the form of a monumental cleft that can be read simultaneously as a vulva and a wound. Measuring 33 meters long, 16 meters wide, and 6 meters deep, the work turns the land into a surface on which historical, social, and bodily conflicts are inscribed. The intervention connects directly with the traces of sugarcane monoculture and its layers of exploitation of land and bodies. Diva acts as an image of rupture, a presence that reorganizes the perception of the place and makes visible what history has buried.
