On October 15, 2026, during ART.PE at the Recife Expo Center, Usina de Arte will launch the book Usina de Arte: A construção de uma utopia (Building a Utopia), written by journalist and anthropologist Bruno Albertim. The publication marks a decade of the project's journey and brings together stories, people, transformations, and reflections on the building of Usina de Arte on the grounds of the former Usina Santa Terezinha, in Água Preta, in Pernambuco's Mata Sul region.
Published in partnership with Companhia Editora de Pernambuco (CEPE), the book traces a story that begins long before Usina de Arte was created. To understand what has been built over the past ten years, one must look at the past of this territory: the history of the former Usina Santa Terezinha, its construction, its transformations over time, and the people who were part of it. The story of Usina de Arte is deeply bound up with this history and with the desire to give new meaning to a place marked by so many memories.
Throughout its pages, the book follows the transformation of this region through art, education, nature, and the relationships built over time. It is also a story of love for this place and of great resilience, made of choices, challenges, encounters, and the persistent belief that a different future could be built from what already existed.
The narrative brings together different moments of this journey and the many people who helped build the project. Artists, residents, educators, researchers, collaborators, and visitors are all part of a story that is still in motion.
For the project's founders, Bruna and Ricardo Pessôa de Queiroz, recording this first decade is also a way to celebrate everything that has been built and to acknowledge the many people who helped make this dream possible.
The book does not close this story. By recording the path traveled, Usina de Arte: A construção de uma utopia also looks ahead to the future of a project that keeps evolving, and to a utopia that, rather than remaining just a dream, continues to be built every day.
