Monumental installation in eight pieces of marble and stainless steel
Variable dimensions
First exhibited at Storm King Art Center in the United States, the work brings together monumental fragments that suggest the ruins of a vanished civilization. Anne and Patrick Poirier have developed a body of work devoted to the fragility of empires, transmuting imaginary remains into a reflection on time, oblivion, and the fall of great structures of power. At Usina de Arte, the work finds a particularly evocative context. Amid the ruins and reinventions of the former Santa Terezinha, its fragments intersect with the history of economic cycles and of the rise and decline of civilizations, speaking to the vulnerability of all human construction.
