Architecture reproducing the atrium of the Casa-Grande of Usina Santa Terezinha
Átrio stems from a gesture both simple and radical: reproducing, elsewhere in the park, the central space of the old mill's Casa-Grande, the owners' manor house. The work arose from workers' and visitors' curiosity about the interior of the residence and from the wish to make accessible a place traditionally reserved for private life. By faithfully recreating its architecture, Marcelo Silveira turns the atrium into an autonomous space for gathering, an area of public circulation, conviviality, and contemplation. Its openings act as frames for the surroundings, turning the landscape into a collection of ever-changing views.
